Oh my time is flying. I’ve been so busy in the garden and trying to keep up with the weeds. I’ve also started a new area, and filling it with horse manure and getting it planted. We’ve had quite a bit of rain so far this june, which is kind of surprising. Any how, here are some pics of our gardens - eye candy, enjoy.

The food supply. All the chemical additives have to be dealt with by the body and therefore less energy devoted to fighting other major invaders. These chemicals can actually interfere with immune responses.

He talks about the dangers in the water supply and it’s negative effects on the immune system. Bromine, Chlorine, Flourine are all dangerous halogens that effect our thyroid and gut bacteria and are present in the water most folks drink everyday.

He goes on to talk about the benefits of letting the body rest, meaning not having to focus on digesting, and get down to business killing bad bacteria and viruses, and cleaning out toxins that have accumulated over time. He offers many products on his website that can aid the body in doing this. He advocates a 3 day fast, this can quickly boost health and stimulate new white blood cells.

So make what you put in really count during those times. He also like adding apple cider vinegar to his water. and incorporating meditation for the rest and repair system to be engaged.

Super easy grain-less granola
This can be made in a large batch or one bowl at a time. Getting well stocked in your pantry may be first or if you have some of these items on hand use what you have. Here are some ingredients I like:
Coconut flakes, cashews, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, flax meal, raisins, goji berries, saskatoons, what ever dried fruit you like. Top with hemp milk, or your favorite milk or yogurt and wa-la. Keeping these ingredients raw instead of toasted retains their vitamin content. Super easy and tasty.

The role of emotions
It is well known now that stress suppresses immunity. In our culture, people often stay in that flight or fight state for most of their adult lives.
Psychoneuroimmunity. She goes on to discuss the connections, now well studied, between our psychological state and our immune function or lack there of. Depression, abandonment, abuse, etc. all can have an affect on our immune function.
Adverse Childhood Events study. “ACE” is the abbreviation for ‘adverse childhood experience.” There are ten types of ACEs as defined by the original and ongoing collaborative research between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA, and Kaiser Permanente in San Diego, CA. In the first study completed in 1998 of 17,500 adults ACEs included:
Parents separating or divorce,
Physical, sexual, or emotional abuse,
Physical and emotional neglect,
Mental illness in the family,
Incarceration by a related family member.

Some traumas are missed by research i.e. bullying, racism, intergenerational trauma, and silent ACEs.
Attachment trauma occurs in conception to 2 yrs. 45% of babies insecurely attach to their mothers. This often leads to developmental trauma and disorders.
Developmental disorders : often relational, leads to learning problems, chronic anxiety. Important to remember that emotional traumas literally change our biology.
HUMANS NEED LOVE: There is a stress response without it. Epigenetic expression is altered. Glucocorticoid expression happens.
Trauma literally changes biology: Results in a lower glucocorticoid response, body pumps out cortisol, inflammatory cytokines, diseases trigged in adulthood.

David Minkoff MD graduated from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in 1974. He then completed both a Pediatric Residency and Fellowship in Infectious Disease at the University of California at San Diego. He worked at the University of California and Children's Hospitals in San Diego as an attending physician in infectious disease while conducting original research on Ribaviron, a broad spectrum anti-viral agent to fight disease. He also co-directed a neo-natal intensive care unit and worked in emergency medicine.His wife suddenly became very ill after having her amalgam fillings removed improperly. So after seeking many different options, he got good direction from a natural dentist. She was referred to a specialized dentist in Seattle, that does proper mercury amalgam removal and detoxification. I think this may be the same dentist that I went to to get my amalgams removed! She gradually got better and better and the docs’ eyes were now open to natural healing. David then went on to become a functional medicine doctor. His practice grew and grew and then went on to open the LifeWorks Wellness Center in 1997, in Clear Water Florida.
Here’s my notes from his interview from the Immune Defense Summit.
Lyme is not new. Lyme has been around for a long, long time and we have co-exsisted with it. So what is different? Why is everyone getting lyme? Well, the population is immune deficient. Simply put our immune system is overloaded with too many jobs to do at once. Conventional treatment rarely cures, and can actually leave the patient in worse condition, due to antibiotic use.
Lyme often leads to dementia type symptoms. There is the toxic load from all the bugs, viruses and pathogens which inflames the central nervous system. This can also lead to an auto immune type of reaction. Therefore, the brain can not regulate itself as it is overloaded from toxic waste excreted by pathogens.
Lyme avoids the immune system. It triggers an inflammatory immune response and can change or morphs into different plasmids. Apparently this is one smart bacteria, it can change into 23 different ones. Another part of it’s defense mechanism is to create a biofilm. These biofilms or slime are created as a protective coating where antibiotics can’t get at it.
Immune attacks. The toxins given off by lyme bacteria actually kill our own cells. It poisions our lymphocytes and causes a reduction of immune cells in an already compromised body. He sees it most reduced in the sickest patients.
Deer ticks as vectors. Tick bite is not necessary for lyme. Apparently, you can also get it from mosquitos and bed bugs etc.
Oral Health. Wow, he really stressed the importance of oral health as a contributing factor of suppressed immune function. Most of his patients had infected root canals or cavitations that they didn’t know. This constant on slought of bacteria was a huge drain on the immune system and couldn’t fight off the lyme. He has certain dentists that he works with to get the proper type of x-ray that can see these areas. It is called a CBCT - cone beam CT scan. Often times he has seen remarkable recoveries just by getting infections out of the mouth. So it is essentially removing the root cause.
Lyme & Gut Health. If you have poor gut health, you are more susceptible to organisms. He sees this in 100% of his patients! 70% of the immune system is in the intestines and has a surface area of 2 tennis courts. So focusing on cleaning up the gut and rebuilding good immunity is essential.
Importance of Food. Lifestyle modification is absolutely necessary for anyone dealing with lyme. Our bodies are overwhelmed by chemicals and toxins in our environment. Cleaning up the diet and removing even more burden, while detoxing by eating fresh, organic food and clean pure water is important.
Rebuilding Immune System. To rebuild the immune system, you need to eliminate any dental problems and systemic illnesses. Nurturing foods to eat are a paleo or keto diet, with lots of vegetables. Also, eliminate and infections in the gut, by not feeding the bad bugs junk food and sugar. Also, there are many natural remedies for cleaning out parasites, and bad bacteria.
Multiple organism overload. We often contract many viruses out in our everyday life like Epstein Barr, CMV, herpes, etc. It just becomes too many for the immune to fight. Antibiotics just don’t work for multiple infections. Also, there are probably nutritional deficiencies that aren’t supporting the immune function as well.
The Mental Connection. Dr. Minkoff expresses the importance to not leave out, the emotional- mental connection as well. Chronic stress, depression and anxiety take a toll on our immune function. I would like to add, that sometimes these symptoms are a result of the toxins as well, and could clear as most of the infections clear. But also to take care to eliminate as much stress as possible during your healing journey.
In Closing. As you can see, lyme disease is really lifestyle disease. It is all of these factors combined to the point of the immune system is being overwhelmed. In mostly all cases the doc has seen the patients have like 15 of these things going on. So you just have to take care of them one by one and eliminate all these causes and viruses, meanwhile cleaning up your diet and lifestyle and rebuild your system. Get out in the sunshine, and also avoid negativity. You can over come this. There are alternatives and doctors that are getting results, you just have to find them. Immune Defense Summit - Ty Bollinger
Ty is an author of the book, “The Truth About Cancer” and host of the 9 part documentary series, “The Truth About Cancer”
Let me tell you, I have seen Ty’s documentary series all the way through. This is a huge gathering of information and a must to see and take notes if you have a loved one dealing with cancer. It is priceless. The information and interviews with many doctors and connections to alternative care centers will give you different options you never knew you had. It also gives you an understanding about the condition of cancer and how you got there. It didn’t just happen over night. It gives one real hope and solutions that are being suppressed by the main stream. As you can see, I highly recommend his work, and you can even find some of it on youtube.
In Ty’s interview, he was one of the first speakers so he was giving a basic overview of the condition of cancer. Because, it is basically just a symptom that has gotten so bad one can now see what was happening at a cellular level. This diagnosis is a result of lifestyle, toxin accumulation, and diet. He talks extensively about how sugar feeds cancer cells and suppresses immune function. And why do oncologists always have a candy bowl on their desk?
So obviously, you would want to change your diet and lifestyle dramatically if you got a diagnosis. He explains to eat real food. Cook dishes from scratch, with whole ingredients. Anything that comes out of a box has additives, preservatives,& pesticides. And of course, you would want to buy certified organic and non-gmo. Good clean water is of utmost importance as well. Cleansing out toxins as you are changing your diet and eliminating toxic elements is key. Getting a filtration system, or having your water tested should be one of the first things you do.
He goes on to suggest some supplements and ideal foods to eat. Some of the supplements are turmeric, vitamin D, resveratrol, apricot kernels, medicinal mushrooms and selenium. Lots of studies are showing deficiencies of vitamin D can really inhibit immune function. Some of the super powerhouse foods he suggests are broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, and green tea. Along with eating lots of vegetables and fruits.
At the end he talks about mind set. People often believe what the doctors tell them. If they say you have 3 weeks to live, patients usually die in 3 weeks. But those that believe there are other ways and don’t accept that diagnosis usually go on to live longer and have better results. If you don’t believe in your treatments, they usually don’t have as good of an out come. So luckily, there are many different modalities for people to try. And sometimes it is a combination of things that work. So, we have to get out of this mind set that there is one cure-all way to do things. And in the natural community, we know, you have to try many modalities to find the one that resonates with your body and belief system. And arming patients with information is the best way to empower and give them hope that there is other ways of getting real healing at a cellular level and bringing your body back into a state of homeostasis.
3-4 c Chicken Broth
5 - 10 cloves of garlic minced
1 - 2 carrots minced
1 small yellow onion
8 Shitake mushrooms sliced
3 cups Spinach
Sautee onions and garlic lightly in some olive oil in soup pot. Add broth and veggies and add herbs generously like parsley, thyme, oregano. A little salt and pepper, and simmer till veggies are tender. Enjoy!
So sad to see her go, but someone must have fallen in love with her. Sold at the Cinnamon Twisp Bakery. The place is actually infused into the painting. I painted this one on site and soil from the banks are rubbed into the banks in the painting. Also, I used water from the river to mix with my paint. Guess I’ll have to make another water painting to replace her. Prayers for the waters, may they stay pure, wild and free.
